Personality

A boho crunchy neo-hippie with big Momma Bear energy, Fallon doesn't fit the archetype for the oldest child from a well-to-do magical family with a long history. She's playfully maternal and endorses nonsense when it's appropriate. However, she won't hesitate to mother people regardless of age or acquaintance, whether they need support or a good ear-dragging. From her perspective 'it takes a village' applies not only to child-rearing, but to keeping fellow community members accountable to being their best selves. Do you recycle? Did you get eight hours of sleep? Have you had enough water today? Do you need a hug? How about some friendly competition to get your motivation up? She will out-do you in hugs, in intentionally butchering Rolling Stone lyrics, in who can clean fastest in balls-to-the-wall Mary Poppins style, or to be the first to make Lloyd laugh with a knock-knock joke. Everyone should be invested in the betterment of their community however they can. She prefers fun when possible.

This is one of her few sticking points with her family. She loves them but disagrees with the isolationist Whitacres' historical stance on detachment from happenings in Le Chemin and NOLA's supernatural population. They have never been allied with a coven. Fallon's choice to join Thibodaux for Annie's benefit kicked up a whirlwind of negative feelings. Her upbringing also means that she has had limited prior experience with the supernatural, excluding spirits and witches on the druidic path. She'll let some of her 'Southern Belle' show when she comes across a creature that surprises or shocks her. Southern Belle doesn't mean Gone with the Wind. She knows which fork to use during a state dinner, but can also shoot a Coke can off a fencepost at 30yrds, use 'bless your heart' as a scathing cut, make occasional pettiness and a short-temper look elegant, and navigate a Cypress swamp without a GPS, without becoming gator food. She's not a pearl clutcher but let's be real, there are some supremely weird things out there. The obviously dangerous or malevolent will get prime rated side-eye from her, but Fallon is aggressively unprejudiced. The trials of living in a body and ethnicity that wasn't originally hers has opened her eyes and given her wisdom and empathy for others that frames her interactions with most new acquaintances and creatures.

A kindly patriarch who lead by example, her father raised his kids with an 'if you want it done right, do it yourself' mentality. If a problem needs addressing she won't wait for permission or assistance handling it, and may never mention the issue afterward. She respects like-minded proactive people as long as they don't bend their morals to get done what needs doing, even if their morals aren't perfectly aligned with hers. Her mindset may rub some of her new coven members wrong, especially if it subverts chain of command or protocol. Her intentions are usually good, but she can be bullish about it.

Sensitive to the dead since infancy, she's good at faking normalcy in public or while keeping company with non-supernaturals, but she does have a habit of staring at nothing like the jokes about cats who see ghosts. Mediumship and contact with the dead isn't a burden. It's an everyday, accepted quality of her life. She considers it an honor to be able to commune with and help human spirits who few can see or would be able to assist. She believes that her role is one of a mediator or counselor. That requires earnestness, sincerity and dedication.

Being Annie's Mom is the most important hat she wears. When her daughter was born, Fallon made a judgement call to raise Annie as a single mother with a loving, supportive extended family. It wasn't until Annie was bitten by a werewolf in late 2018 that she second-guessed her decision. Although she's still upset over the loss of Annie's magical inheritance, Fallon has shifted gears as much as she's able. Acclimating to coven membership is on ongoing process she embraces, so that her daughter has the community and pack support she needs to master herself and thrive. That doesn't mean Fallon is happy about the money she has shelled out for bug spray over the last two years to tolerate the bayou, or over the swamp witch label that comes with Thibodaux allegiance, but when needs must you rise to the occasion.

skills + abilities
Astral Body Projection While sleeping her spirit [soul, essence, whatever you believe] will sometimes leaves her body in the form of a faint white light. No matter how much effort or training she puts into trying to control this, she can't. It happens sporadically and for undetermined lengths of time. Her spirit is a wide-eyed unattended kid in a Target. This results in undirected, basically entirely useless remote viewing. She can't wake until her spirit returns, and has ended up sleeping for days before the thing opts to stroll back. To prevent this in her early years, she slept in a room marked with caging runes and wards. In her current body, she had those runes tattooed on her wrist so that she's always protected. If she ever chooses to use this ability, she can cover the runes with a silver bangle to negate them. In the past it has only caused her trouble.

Mediumship The Whitacres are a reclusive brood known for spiritual and psychic magics, but mediumship isn't historically common among them. Her family helped her learn how to ward and protect herself, but not how to augment or fully explore her ability. Consequentially, her mediumship is trained enough to be fully voluntary, but her experience with full channeling and possession is very low and can be volatile.

Spiritualist practitioners classify mediumship in two ways: mental, and psychic, the first being the more 'scientific' and controlled of the two. Although she had the early capacity to learn psychic mediumship, Fallon is a mental medium, meaning she 'tunes in' to the spirit world by summoning spirits for conversation in client readings, and by listening, sensing, and seeing spirits or associated signs and symbols. She does not perform seances, channel or host spirits unless emergency calls for it, or unless a very powerful spirit or entity overwhelms her and forces the possession. When communicating for a ghost, she allows her 'ego' to step aside, but remains awake, aware and able to break the trance when she chooses. So in a client sitting session, she acts as a telephone for communication between the spirit and its inquirer, but rarely hosts the spirit or grants it access to her body. [This is due to complications with Astral Body Projection]

If possession is called for, she has to invite all but the most powerful presences [human and inhuman] to inhabit her. She has to first make her body hospitable for a visitor to allow this, which is accomplished by deepening her trance to the edge of spirital sleep, and covering her protection runes with silver. Very old or powerful spirits and entities can ignore these requirements, but have not been able to maintain possession for longer than two hours in the past. Spirits usually complain of discomfort when possessing her, as she's resistant to and deeply uncomfortable with it on a basic level and has done inadequate training for it. Because spirits are often also disaccustomed to operating a physical body, Fallon will have someone bind, tie or restrain her in some way beforehand to prevent bodily injury. When involuntarily overtaken, she has woken in strange places or medical facilities in the past. The disorientation is not a party.

Additional Magical and Mundane skills She can mix decent potions and identify most magically useful plants, herbs and ingredients, can navigate by the sun, has a keen interest in both atrology and astronomy and alwyas knows where to find celestial bodies in the sky, speed reads at a collegiate level, ride horses and motorcycle, pilot a boat, do minor clothing repairs, open car doors with coat hangers [thanks Max] is a decent long distance runner, played soccer for twelve years and maintains the coordination, and is an excellent cook. She can fry anything you can imagine, clean crabs and crawfish, set a sideboard, make proper sweet tea and is a faultless southern hostess.

HISTORY

A doll-like blue-eyed blonde born to silver spoons and a wealthy magical heritage, Fallon's sparkly childhood was split between NOLA and Charleston, South Carolina, for summering. The first child of Jonathon and Penelope Whitacre [from the prestigious Raleigh Marchand coven], she wanted for next to nothing, except a bit of normalcy. Her astral body projection and spirtual conductivity has been active since birth. First her parents thought they had been blessed with a baby who slept a lot. When her spirit went on its first 24 hour excursion at three months old, Penelope freaked out, feared SIDs, and the couple understood what was happening. Instead of a pretty nursery, Fallon slept in a room painted with warding runes on all four walls, the ceiling and the floor, and continued to until her mid twenties.

With cautionary measures in place, the rest of her childhood and teenage years were fairly normal among the witching community. She studied her gifts in the evenings on and weekends and learned to behave normally with mundane kids after a few too many conversations with spirits in public that lost her friends and earned her ridicule. From K-12 she attended Lycée Français de la Nouvelle-Orléans. Afterward, she enrolled at Duke University's business school in Durham for her BA, where she did the sorority and philanthropy thing as expected of a good southern girl.

Among several other business ventures, the Whitacre family owns and operates the largest shipping company in the Port of New Orleans. Fallon is the oldest of three children. Her younger brother and sister were less interested in the family's operations, so from childhood, their father took Fallon underwing as his heir. She balanced the development of a cutthroat business accumen with gentile expectations outlined by her mother, pulling double duty as the firstborn son her father wanted, and her mother's mini-me. By sixteen, Fallon was burning a candle at both ends, but she prided herself on it. She learned how to short the market, eyeball unidentified opportunity, analyze DOW fluctuations and delegate work with the precision and ruthlessness of a shark, while ensuring there was never a wrinkle in her dresses, a bit of grit on her pearls or a curl or appropriate smile out of place. She had almost no social life to speak of with her schoolmates, but somehow won Prom Queen. To this day she suspects her father bought off student council, because varied involvement would look good on her college applications. Within a year of her graduation from Duke, she had burnt out and went looking to rebel.
